Dealing with internalised body shame during lockdown
A video Q&A created during the 2020 lockdowns with Anna Hearn of Havel Wellness.
Episode description from Anna:
Our Haven (www.havenwellness.com.au) members have been sharing their pressing questions and concerns so I've pulled together a bunch of our favourite local health professionals who are non-diet/HAES-aligned to share their thoughts and advice from their professional and lived experiences.
This week's question is more of a comment, and one that is super familiar to many of us. I really want this member to know they're not alone and that this is all part of the journey in recovery towards a more peaceful relationship with food and your body:
“Body shame is off the charts. I feel like I’ll never accept this body of mine. I feel I’m going backwards in self acceptance and diets thoughts are creeping in constantly, even though my experiences with diets have been terrible, it’s very seductive at the moment. I feel I'm doubting all my beliefs about HAES , but in my heart I know it’s not the case, but still, the diet culture voice is very loud".
Rachel runs Make Space Counselling - a person-centered, collaborative counselling practice with a trauma informed, social justice focus.
Rachel works with the principles of Intuitive Eating and Health At Every Size® (HAES®), and is currently training in Cohort 8 of Be Nourished’s Body Trust Provider® certification. Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
